Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.
- Plato
I can’t remember a time when making music and helping others to make music wasn’t an important part of my life. I believe that music is an essential part of what it means to be human – it’s in our DNA. Archeologists haven’t found a society or civilization without music, and I doubt they ever will.
Throughout my career I have always pursued two goals: to present opportunities for music making to everyone, while striving to make the process (and the outcome) the best it can possibly be. Whether I am leading a massed singing program, directing a chamber choir, or conducting an orchestra my goal is to share my passion and insight for the music we make together.
I have been fortunate to have benefited from the wisdom and guidance of many master teachers, artists, composers, conductors, coaches, and colleagues. But no one can ever keep this knowledge to themselves and we honour our teachers by passing on their knowledge and generosity to others. It is always a privilege to stand in front of a group of musicians as we explore a new composition or an established masterpiece.
